Can't get the thing to even turn on, despite trying a variety of batteries. Even if I could, the paint job is pretty slapdash--not as nice as the one in the photographs. What a shame! Edit: turns out the battery sockets weren't making good contact with the batteries: a little bending and shoving, and we managed to get it to work. Even so, the Discovery Channel model has far less detail than the Uncle Milton version, and the phases look more artificial. It is not a bad toy, but it is not the best of its kind. Anderson "law mom" (Philadelphia) - See all my reviews    = Durability:  = Fun:  = Educational:  This review is from: Discovery Kids Lunar Phase Moon Lamp MULTI (Toy) i got this for my 5th grader as part of a celestial room makeover. combined with glow in the dark stars on the ceiling, it was really cool. but it only worked for 2 nights! then the remote stopped working and the darn thing was always on unless manually turned off. not very convenient for something hung close to the ceiling. It's not the same as the one I purchased a year ago. Last years was still a discovery kids, but it looks more like the Uncle Milton brand. This new one is way cheaper looking. The detail isn't there like the origional one. Honestly, it looks like a cheap chinease knock off. For the same price, go with Uncle Milton.
